Volunteering in NYC with New York Cares
In the past three weeks, since registering, I have completed about 15 hours in several different projects:
-initial orientation (takes one hour, go to http://nycares.org and reserve your spot)
-helped out at craigslist foundation non-profit bootcamp at nyu
-worked for the cat adoption van outside the ues petco
-helped locals with basic computer skills at the rec center twice (this will probably be a weekly)
-rode in the coalition for the homeless van delivering meals around the city
This is just a sampling of the many different opportunities that exist for helping others and meeting some really nice people along the way.
Once you go to the aforementioned 1 hour orientation, you will have a log in to search available projects. There are so many volunteers it can be difficult to get projects but i guess that really is a good thing, after all. ~JKW
